Albert Marshall’s wife, Jane, singing in the Labour Party’s campaign propaganda about how she believes in Joseph because Malta taghna lkoll. What scum. Such trash.

Jason Micallef interviewed by Times of Malta today:

He pointed out that it was no coincidence that Albert Marshall was the deputy chairman of V18, the deputy chairman of PBS and the chairman of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

“You might have noticed that the cultural content of PBS is increasing.”

It would take somebody even trashier than Albert Marshall to think Marshall is a cultured person. He is anything but.

I recommend you read the whole of the interview, which is now off premium content and accessible. It will make your eyes bleed.

A sample – Ziguzag and Nottebianco crowds are an indication of how cultured Maltese people are:

Yet, according to a Eurobarometer study, culture ranks low in Maltese life.

“We are discussing the survey internally,” Mr Micallef said, “but how can Maltese people not be taking part in cultural activities? We had 80,000 people in Valletta for Notte Bianca, and Żigużajg was a huge success…”

When it was pointed out that both events were free, he admitted the Maltese did have a tendency, “historically”, to like something that was free of charge.

He also mentioned Earth Garden, which he said was a huge success, the Salesian Oratory in Sliema, bursting with cultural activities, and the popular Gozo theatres.

“The activity is so vibrant that you start asking yourself: what is the Eurobarometer survey referring to?”

And best of all:

Book he’s reading now: Alex Ferguson, My Autobiography.

• Last play he’s seen: “(Long pause)… I watched it at the Oratorju tal-Mosta but I don’t remember the name of the play.”

• Last museum he visited: St John’s Co-Cathedral Museum.

• Culture credentials: “I worked as a producer with PBS for 16 years on programmes like Natura Ambjent, Djar u Ideat and other productions like Kif Għadda ż-Żmien, which required a lot of historical research, particularly on Valletta.”

I know for a fact that Jason Micallef carried out no research for the nostalgiafest Kif Għadda ż-Żmien. It was all done by the co-presenter Steve Borg.

  2. ciccio says:

I think that Joseph Muscat has the answer to his question “Why not?”

    • Paddling Duck says:

Or worse that that “kif qed nifimha jien” which can be translated to “hekk qed nghid jien u hekk se jsir”

  3. J.J. says:

That long pause simply gives away Mr Micallef’s intellectual and cultural void. Obviously he’s shameless about it.

  4. edgar says:

He should also have mentioned that his best friend is that guy who was Lorry Sant’s partner, whose name escapes me.

  5. bookworm says:

    Natura Ambjent….l-apice tal-kultura.

  6. Botom says:

Times of Malta missed his main cultural credential: his famous pre-election declaration “Hawn qedghin bejnietna Gvern Laburista gdid se jkun gvern tal-Laburisti”. And he kept to his word.

  7. Gahan says:

    Culture for the masses.

Why were Salvu Mallia’s programs removed from TVM?

With all his theatrics and gesticulations, Salvu managed to impart a lot of cultural and historical knowledge to his viewers and undoubtedly increased TVM’s viewership with his well researched series of programs.

From his utterances he looked more pro-Labour.

  8. EU UKRAINE says:

‘Best of all’ above speak volumes about this guy’s cultural acumen.

Reading Ferguson’s autobiography must be highly illuminating as was his research to produce a programme on beetroots.

  9. tronga says:

“Popular Gozo theatres”: kielha l-ghatba taz-zewg teatri biex jattendi ghall-opri, nahseb. Qatt ma deher.

  10. manum says:

Someone should read Les Miserables out to Jason as he appears incapable of reading it himself.

We have awakened to a nightmare that is going to leave us limping for a very long time. These people just love to be blind and deaf.

  11. Wot the Hack says:

On a different but topical subject.

Has anyone considered how much development JPO can now do on his land in Mistra under the proposed MEPA ODZ policy?

How much land does he have there? How much “storage” space can be build? Can he convert it for “agri-tourism”?

  12. Joe Fenech says:

You forgot to mention one important things:

according to Egregio Signor Micallef, Wayne Marshall is not good as an artistic director . Although he does admit that he is a good ‘surmast’ (the dimwit, doesn’t understand that ‘surmast’ which translates as ‘maestro’, is not a profession).

Wayne Marshall, is a highly acclaimed organist and conductor who has recently also been appointed chief conductor of the West-German Orchestra in Cologne (obviously, Jason doesn’t have a clue what that means because, as it happens, top orchestras don’t get invited by the Oratorju tal-Musta!).

    Desperate situation.

  13. Joe Fenech says:

THIS is an Albert Marshall production:

Notice the intensity of the performance, the expressive lighting, the creative editing, the pace…! The DVD is on sale and is being marketed as a MATSEC examination revision tool.

Then people wonder why the Maltese are so illiterate!

    Meanwhile,

“Lou Bondi, who says he is “no longer doing journalism”, (The Malta Independent)

Very convenient, Lou Bondi. Quite frankly I don’t care about your and the government’s special guest.Qatt ma mressjonawni dawn l-affarijiet.

What I care about is the kind of Malta that my children will be living in.

You make your choices but then expect criticism.

  15. aston says:

In the meantime, according to The Malta Independent, Lou Bondi has secured a “great artist” for the upcoming national celebrations. I was just wondering how Lou was expecting any enthusiasm from the masses if someone like Gerhard Richter showed up, till I realised the article was actually about a “great artiste” and he meant Lady Gaga or someone of that ilk.

    Trashification indeed.

  16. Thorny2 says:

Mhux ta’ b’xejn Joseph Muscat ma ridux iktar Segretarju Generali tal-PL. Cuc ta’ dik il-kwalita’ kif tista’ tahdem mieghu. L-injuranza ippersonifikata.

  17. notimpressed says:

Jason Micallef – miskin – has to rely on other people to prop him up. One who managed to go back to his ultra-SOCIALIST PAST, lou bondi will certainly be one to prop Jason up. Shame on all those who are helping this incompetent lot.

  18. verita says:

Albert Marshall’s production called L-Indemonjati, at the Manoel Theatre last winter (how can Jason Micallef not have watched it?) was base, coarse, vulgar, cheap and offensive in its utter tackiness.

Also, it was pure propaganda against the Labour Party’s favourite targets.

People stood up and left before the intermission.

The play was full of the coarsest, most pointless swearing, vulgar gestures by Marshall’s wife, who doesn’t seem to understand that she is now an old woman and no longer a shockster in her 20s performing in Il-Madonna tac-Coqqa on Xandir Malta 40 years ago, and all sorts of disgusting attacks, totally devoid of any real humour or satire, on Labour’s enemies.

And that was at the national theatre, under a Nationalist government.

  19. TROY says:

Sawn-off Santa and his wizened wife.

  20. Last Post says:

Mrs Marshall quoted on lejber’s billboards: “JIENA NEMMEN F’JOSEPH GHAX JOSEPH JEMMEN … ”

    *** Deputy Chairman of V18,
    *** Deputy Chairman of PBS
*** Chairman of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

Daqshekk Joseph Muscat jemmen f’Mrs Marshall, tant li appunta lir-ragel taghha f’dawn il-karigi, imhallas mit-taxxi taghha. Bir-ragun temmen f’Joseph!

  21. Angus Black says:

Mr Micallef said, “but how can Maltese people not be taking part in cultural activities?

Taking part in ‘cultural activities’ does not make a cultured people, sur Micallef. But you are so shallow, no one expects that you would know any different.

Besides, sur Jason, many of the 80,000 you mentioned were there because entrance to many venues was ‘free’ for the day/night, because your cultured ones still have the echoes of ‘Jew b’xejn, jew xejn’ still ringing in their heads.

Still more would not miss visiting Castille to see where their idol busts his arse (between trips abroad but not including Gozo) in order to make sure ‘il-kontijiet tad-dawl jonqsu’ because as they are now, they impoverish the nation.

  22. Rumplestiltskin says:

He goes for the really highbrow cultural stuff doesn’t he? The sort of productions staged at L-Oratorju tal-Mosta. The sad thing is that this is the ‘culture’ they understand.

  23. Tabatha White says:

An old blog on culture, and looting… and Eurovision by extension:

    http://www.brianmicklethwait.com/culture/archives/2003/05/aaron_haspel_on.html

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

      Blimey. That’s deep, that is.

But hands off Eurovision. Not the junior one of course, which realised it was a paedophile’s dream, and went full calvinist instead, with frumpy frocks and cotton socks (what IS a children’s song contest anyway? Don’t they know children must be seen but not heard?). No. I’m talking about the real adult Eurovision, that magnificent celebration of kitsch, gyrations, hip-shaking and sequined Euroflesh. If this is what it takes to keep us from fracticidal genocide, then so be it.

  24. Joe Fenech says:

Has Jane Marshall re-cycled her picnic blanket into a shirt?
