Is the prime minister treating his MPs like children, and taking them on trips to be good?

Deborah Schembri – the prime minister took her to London with him yesterday

Deo Debattista was the Chosen One for the journey to China, and even sat at the negotiating table with the prime minister and the deputy prime minister, and the ambassador, while the foreign minister, who should have been there, was not.

And when the prime minister flew to London yesterday morning for random meetings and to speak to a small crowd at the London School of Economics, Deborah Schembri was with the entourage.

Do they take turns or draw straws? Or are they being rewarded for doing their chores?

A four-day visit for a Commonwealth meeting! And such a large delegation, too.

LSE summer school if you please…

Perhaps he wanted some mother-figure to cuddle him and put him to sleep.

Good time to travel to London for some serious shopping from certain shops.

  6. RF says:

They’re too stupid to realize they’re so stupid that Joseph Muscat takes advantage of their stupidity.

  7. Bob says:

Did they have ‘free time’ written into their schedule for a spot of shopping? Maybe a trip to the West End to see Les Miserables and sing along with the masses “Do you hear the people sing? Singing a song of angry men?”

  8. Charles says:

Joseph Muscat took Deborah Schembri shopping to London. Watch out, Oxford Street.

  9. Carmelo Micallef says:

She would have added some weight to the delegation.

Is anybody keeping tabs on the cost of these trips? Perhaps with some restraint, we will be able to hold elections for the local councils.

The prime minister needed a bouncer.

‘….Speaking on One radio along with the executive secretary of Labour think tank Fondazzjoni Ideat Desmond Zammit Marmara, Mr Parnis also suggested that contractors who owe money to the government should be requested to restore facades of old buildings and help restore bastions in the south of Malta in exchange for the money they owe….’

What if the contractor’s from the north? And what if the contractor doesn’t owe money?

Payment in kind huwa taghna lkoll. Then they’ll go all gaga why the economy grinds to a halt. Labour’s typical quixotic attitude to good practice, they just have to mess around and experiment.

Need we say Parnis already has a couple of ‘contractors’ in mind? And don’t give me employees left without a job, those can go where the work is.

Well everyone deserves a holiday I suppose. Only difference is that the PL supporters are given one for free, that is at the taxpayers’ expense.

And such a fuss was made of the 500 euros that was given, and then refunded, by the PN government.

Now everything is just perfect, no complaints, no moaning and groaning, everything is just dandy.

About time the Maltese woke up to reality but I suppose they will not do so until they still seem to have money is their pockets because after all this is what they think counts.

Who cares about democracy, and all the promises of transparency, accountability, and all the blah blah by the PL prior to the elections. I am afraid we are all in for a big bump sooner than later.

    Class outing.

  17. dg says:

They restricted the number of media organisations, saving funds spent on air tickets, so that they can spend it on Deo and Deborah. So typical of Labour, always taking care of their own.

    • La Redoute says:

They restricted the number of media organisations to China so that they could control what was reported.

  18. bob-a-job says:

It seems the PM puts a lot of weight on his actions.

He’s taken a few MPs on trips already so now he’s taken Deborah to balance things up.

There are more clothes to choose from in her size in London stores.

  22. Osservatore says:

While he is virtually breastfeeding his backbenchers (not Marlene and Godfrey who have since started teething) Muscat follows, in the wake of giants like Obama and Cameron, prematurely (or should I say immaturely) waving his dick at Mr. Putin, knowing that he is relatively safe back here. Let’s not be too surprised when he ends up with egg on his face, assuming that’s what it will be!

The scary bit is that these choices usually have a specific reason behind them other than taking out the children for a trip in the park.

I wonder what he would have done had he graduated from the London School of Economics. Probably he would have expected his Sun and Star to automatically qualify for admittance. As why Deborah followed him, who knows? Maybe she saw it as a free holiday: se nitla London mal-prim.

  28. motto says:

Perhaps he wanted to put some weight behind his words

  30. Arturo Mercieca says:

Actually, it was Lawrence Gonzi who started this practice when he took Franco Debono with him to the opening session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. During this trip, Franco Debono showed his school report for Form IIb to Minister Tonio Borg to put his case forward for a ministerial post.

[Daphne – Franco Debono was the only one. And he was certifiable. So that hardly counts as ‘starting the practice’. I would not, however, have taken him on a trip anywhere, because my religious faith isn’t so strong that I believe you can cure a person’s psychiatric illness or mitigate the symptoms merely by treating them as you would a normal person, just with more kindness and tolerance. People who need psychiatric care need psychiatric care, more so when they are dangerously aggressive.]
