Panda has human babies – and what’s more, they’re two twins rather than three

Published: July 21, 2014 at 10:58pm

A miracle has occurred. This panda has given birth to a boy and a girl, rather than to a male and female of its own species, and for the first time ever there are two twins rather than three or the more usual four.

The Times has gone to the dogs.

For some real wisdom and for a lesson in answering questions:

“Another question regarded Malta’s opinion of Vladimir Putin. Dr Muscat argued that if rogues are running amuck in Ukraine then the West needs to take action.”

“On the subject of Lockerbie, Dr Muscat argued Swire, the father of a girl killed in the bombing, said that Malta had nothing to do with the bombing and that he has met with Swire many times and will meet him again in the future.”

And it was a female panda which gave birth…wow.

  4. Tal-Malja says:

Ginger twins? Do they know who’s the father?

  5. milton says:

Even Times of Malta it went to the sea.

  6. Peritocracy says:

Stupid pandas. Don’t they realise they’re making themselves extinct by birthing humans.

  7. stephanie says:

    Two twins?

  8. pat says:

Well, the report did say “…..the first of their kind….”

A boy and a girl to a panda would certainly qualify.

  9. thealley says:

Aren’t all pandas rare, even non-red ones?

  10. Aunt Hetty says:

Small mercies: they didn’t wind up the article by telling us that ‘mum is doing well’.

  11. H.P. Baxxter says:

I, for one, bow down to our Chinese panda overl— oh, I see.

    • Benny Hill says:

Tajba, Baxxter. Also love that you took the time to insert HTML code for the italics – that’s real dedication right there!

  12. Len says:

How sweet, a boy and a girl. They can call them Michelle and Joseph cause you never know, when they grow up they might lead our country to greatness.

  13. Toni says:

Two twins make four pandas. What are the other two?

  14. F.X. says:

Times of Malta had a headline some months ago, “Man killed by a chicken”. I wrote to them that this ‘amusing’ headline about a mentally ill man who choked a piece of chicken was offensive to the dead man, his family and its readers in general. They changed it. I hoped they changed the inspired writer as well. Or else s/he’s now moved from chickens to pandas.

    • Calculator says:

“Man killed by a chicken” sounds like something from a Monty Python sketch, maybe an extension of ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’. It really takes away any hope of mine that the Times of Malta may yet have a decent editor or journalist remaining.

  15. rjc says:

Has Times of Malta done away with its sub-editors? They get worse by the day.

  16. caflanga says:

The panda girl will be named Sai and the boy, Konrad.

  17. el bandido guapo says:

    Bunch of rank amateurs.

Anyone with half a grasp of the English language could spend half a day every day emailing them to draw attention to the evident dilettantism of their “journalists”.

Still fuming over the “bikies” story. Well, that affair may have been handled by some sheila.

  18. Calculator says:

Well, Muscat is obviously looking in the wrong direction if he gawks at China’s achievements. Britain is the true land of miracles.

  19. ACD says:

The word ‘panda’ alone usually means ‘Giant Panda’. The red panda is a small, cat-sized animal that lives in trees. It isn’t really related to the panda.

How much can you cock up a short article like that?

  20. Kif inhi din? says:

Time for China to donate a panda to our Prime Minister to consolidate good relations.

    • Kevin says:

The Chinese have already pandered to Muscat’s lust for power and money by bankrolling him to government.

  21. Niki B says:

They’ve removed the “two” before “twins” but continue to refer to them as “boy and girl” rather than “male and female”. Is it defiance?

  22. Calculator says:

There also seems to be another article on the Times of Malta site covering the news item: http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20140716/odd-news/rare-red-panda-twins-born-at-zoo.527927

So what exactly is the point of the badly-written article penned by an amateur?

  23. Lucia says:

    Lol daph! Hilarious

  24. Sophia. says:

A pair of twins does not make four.

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20140722/local/mount-carmel-patient-was-not-assaulted-but-force-was-used-board-concludes.528822

“The board, however, found no evidence of assault but established the patient had been vaccinated to be put under control and said there were a number of irregularities in the way this was done”

Maybe they mean ‘sedated’? They did stick a needle into the patient, so its the same thing to the TOM reporter.

  26. chico says:

    What’s the superlative of “pathetic”?

  27. chico says:

What’s the difference between a panda and a Peking duck?

    King Duck.

  28. L. Gatt says:

And strangely it was the female which gave birth.

  29. jenny says:

Was this written by a Chinese reporter?
