Talk about a state of denial

Two men of integrity

In The Malta Independent right now:

Minister Mallia said that members of the Opposition are ‘attacking’ him personally. “You will not taint my integrity, no matter how hard you try,” he told Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi.

WHAT INTEGRITY?

In any case, it’s reputations which are tainted. Integrity is something which is an integral (natch) part of the individual, and which cannot be affected by external slurs and slander.

Massive attacks can be made falsely on a person’s reputation, even with success, and they will still have integrity regardless.

Emmanuel Mallia’s behaviour consistently shows that he has no integrity, even if he fondly imagines he does by the standards of his Paul Sheehan origins. As for his reputation, he’s done a pretty good lifelong job of tainting it himself, and is currently engaged in upping the ante under the full glare of the media spotlight.

Massive: Mallija’s obesity problem makes him vulnerable to metabolic syndrome.

    Interesting comments from Simon Mercieca.

“I clearly remember Guido de Marco being appointed Minister for the Interior and Justice. I got the shock of my life when I saw Guido de Marco walking triumphantly in the middle of a group of people you would not want behind your door. Both Justice and Police were a big mess then and Eddie Fenech Adami had the political intuition to redress this situation. The opportunity arose when the late and beloved Censu Tabone was appointed President. de Marco was promoted to Foreign Affairs minister in his stead.”

“Top criminal lawyers cannot be entrusted with the Ministry of the Interior. At least, both de Marco and Mallia proved to be unsuitable for the job. I am sure that there is even more to this. A serious biographical study would reveal other hidden similarities that, till now, have escaped public scrutiny.”

Would it not be interesting to sit Mallia down, ask him to recount exactly what happened, to the best of his knowledge, and then ask him to state what steps he thinks are justified.

This piecemeal method of a few questions here and a few questions there and a ‘stqarrija’ here and there is perfect for liars to hide behind. Making them tell the story from start to finish would put a spotlight on the farce.
