Meanwhile, hemm ragel Mount Carmel ghax ipparkja l-karozza quddiem Kastilja, hareg karta li tghid li l-MEPA mhux fair u qaghad kwiet lanqas fetah halqu, jserrah mal-karozza u jixrob l-ilma.

U dan l-imbarazz jigri barra.

*Daphne’s note: This man in fact only spent a day at the mental hospital. The police took him there forcibly having obtained some kind of note from a doctor on duty at a health centre. But when the duty psychiatrist at Mount Carmel saw him, he ordered his immediate release. This scandal did not get the press/public attention it warranted.

What’s really worrying about this incident is it gives us some indication that there may well be other government cover-ups that the media has not managed to uncover.

After all, this one was only exposed because the bullets actually hit the car and because – unknown to Manuel Mallia’s driver and his boss – people looked out when they heard the commotion and saw what was happening. They saw Smith standing outside his car trying to reason with Sheehan, and they saw Sheehan threaten him with a gun, while he was standing outside the car, and then shoot at him as he left.

I was there in the 80s and at the time I was part of the marmalja, hence I know what I am talking about, and all I am seeing today is a repeat performance.

Sent to a psychiatric hospital for a peaceful one-man protest outside the prime minister’s office. What does the main occupant of the building deserve, then?

Manuel’s police force is getting dirtier by the hour.

The lack of a drug test and a psychological assessment is very disturbing.

Ahna x-xjuh niftakru mexxej tal-Pl jghidilna li jigi nitnejjek mill-kostuttizzjoni, u waqt l-istrajk tat-tobba ‘allura billi imutu erba min-nies?’

    Il-PL huwa l-ligi, l-imhallef u il-Paterfamilias ghax hu biss jaf x’inhu tajjeb ghalina cittadini.

[Daphne – The man to whom Mintoff said “Jien x’nitnejjek mill-Konstizzuzjoni?” was, as it happens, my grandfather. So yes, I can vouch for the fact that he really did say it and that it is not an urban legend.]

Just this morning I was having a coffee in our staff canteen when I overheard an interesting conversation between two diehard Labour supporters.

One of them tried to diminish the culpability of Mallia, but his friend became so angry that he stopped him and said to him: “Aqtahha ghax issa qazzizna l’ A.@%&a, Ha nispiccaw nitilfu sormna fuq zewg Nazzjonalisti li dahhalnihom maghna biex nintghogbu”.

I think we’re collectively at a fresh intolerance level.

Joseph Muscat’s coffin, in denial, is experiencing nail rejection.

The sound of consciences pricking has become audible.

  9. Natalie says:

If you remember well, the doctor at the Health Centre refused to send the man to Mount Carmel, but the police saw fit to shop around for a doctor who was willing to do so and found such a doctor at Casualty.

    Such abusive police we’ve got.

  11. Il-verita says:

Today when Muscat was speaking to the press he resorted to his tactics of referring to so called ‘scandals’ concerning PN.

For once, the press were quick in reacting and gave him some of his own medicine by mentioning the Chris Said story, when Said resigned pending criminal proceedings against him.

The PM was not able to answer and was at a loss when confronted by a press crowd full of questions, who were less than charmed by him for once. This was a novel experience for him and he didn’t know how to handle it. Even his facial expression was different, more subdued.

The PM will soon realise that his gimmicks will not last for long and that the nation will get tired of him resorting to his good old Super One trick. It showed all over his face that he was highly uncomfortable with the questions put.

He was only relieved by the TVM-turned-North-Korea reporter who despite the big story of the shooting asked a question about the launch of CHOGM.

If only journalists were always so pressing as they were today, Malta would be a bit more bearable to live in.
