That ‘sacking’ was a mise en scene: Manuel Mallia in meeting with the prime minister this afternoon

Published: December 18, 2014 at 3:40pm

Sacked (well…) Police, Army and Broadcasting Minister Manuel Mallia was seen entering the Office of the Prime Minister an hour ago. He was driven there by Joe L-Olandiz in a dark blue Mercedes.

In the brief period when the prime minister was in Malta and not in Baku since Mallia was replaced just nine days ago, the two have appeared in public together twice: at the unveiling of the statue of Dom Mintoff and at the funeral mass for the prime minister’s head of secretariat’s grandmother, where they made a point of sitting together, hip to hip.

The prime minister returned from Baku last night, and his immediate priority today was a meeting with Mallia.

Is a list of perks of Ministers and MPs available anywhere for public scrutiny?

Do back benchers get a driver, car fuel allowance etc, as well for example?

[Daphne – Of course they don’t have a driver. Do you really need to have the distinction between government and parliament explained to you?]

  2. Mila says:

A criminal lawyer’s input must be quite important to the PM.

  3. Malti ta' Veru says:

Some people just have no shame or ethics. You are clearly guilty of the most despicable behaviour in politics and you then have the audacity to return like some hero for yet more handouts.

Really I think it is now time this lot started to get their come-uppance. THEY HAVE TO GO.

  4. Neil says:

The word among Labour diehards around Mallia’s district (9) after he was sacked last week, was that he’d be a minister again within two months.

  5. Pablo says:

The Toad is back, stronger than ever. As Marlene Farrugia says, and most Labour voters are starting to agree with her: Joey is surrounded by rubbish he cannot get rid of.

Those two could somehow be considered stupid, even though they certainly were not. They were simple creatures,
      however.

      Their ‘imitators’ aren’t either.

  7. Jojo says:

Well at least not in charge of Police, Army, and broadcasting, maybe now he’ll get the buses.

Siehbi, I am going to Brussels

    • Salvu says:

You seriously think that Brussels is enough for him.

The man controlled Joseph Muscat in such a way that OUR Prime Minister gave him the army, the police and the broadcasting of these islands.

      • ilmawstalmiki says:

        Well…

The west-end Grand Bahama, has been ranked among the top ten most shark-infested beaches in the world. Its marine ecosystem is already “heavily protected”. But it still leaves some interesting places in the Americas. Candidate countries might be Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, etc

  10. Jozef says:

    Menswear.

  11. ZambiToo says:

So Manuel Mallia too is to be knighted as a suldat tal-azzar, just like Cyrus.

  12. Mk says:

Mmm it seems someone has his balls locked in a fat toad’s mouth. Kiss the toad under the mistletoe on Christmas Eve and he will free you.

  13. La Redoute says:

Who is paying Joe l-Olandiz to drive Manuel Mallia around? And what is Pawlu l-Machine Gun up to these days?

  14. Peter V says:

I hear that Mallia made it no secret among his friends and colleagues in the legal profession that his ambition was to become PM. Joey had better watch out.

    • Benny Hill says:

Humpty Dumpty as PM? All you’d have to do is to take him to the top of a hill, kick him in the arse, and he’d roll all the way down to the sea and sink.

  15. eve says:

The outcome will come at a high price, from the taxpayer.

  16. Joe Fenech says:

Maybe soon Malta will have the Ministry of the Underworld with Hades Mallia at its helm.

  17. pocoyo says:

Mallia seems to be the back seat driver

  18. Machiavelli says:

It’s the Passport Selling Scheme he is after. That’s where the money is.

  19. Mananni says:

Joseph’s next victim is George Vella so it would not surprise me is Dr. Mallia is made foreign minister.

  20. holly says:

Love the photo! Tweedledee and Tweedledum. If his next aim is to be foreign minister, then President of the Republic will follow. He always wanted to be Guido Demarco.
