Muscat’s Party have even managed to turn off Number One Labour fan James Tyrrell

Published: December 18, 2014 at 9:39pm

After more than a decade of campaigning for the Labour Party on every comments-board imaginable (and in the letters pages of Times of Malta before then), the near-mythical James Tyrrell describes Joseph Muscat as “your idiot prime minister”.

Bit late in the day to find out that I was right despite his constant haranguing insults.

“Government intends to construct a fully-fledged airstrip, capable of handling international flights.”

This is madness. This is not just an airstrip for small aircraft for domestic flights. International flights require larger aircraft with a much greater impact. Up to half Gozo, including Rabat, will be negatively impacted by the operation of the new airport.

Bye, bye eco Gozo. Gozo’s attraction is peace and quiet in a Mediterranean landscape. If and when Gozo becomes like Malta, then there will be no reason for people (overseas tourists or Maltese) to go Gozo. Instead of generating employment, a Gozo airport will kill off its main source of income.

One runway does not make an international airport, far from it.

Even when a temporary runway was built during WWII in the same area, and which was used for only a few weeks, they felt the need to build two runways.

Then there is the problem of runway orientation. The present strip cannot be lengthened due to the Xewkija church being right in the path. So it would have to be another completely new runway.

International flights would also require customs and baggage handling facilities which are non existent in the small passenger building.

It was Eddie Fenech Adami who started it with his “Maltin u Ghawdxin.”

        Road to hell. Good intentions.

We should welcome all converts as long as they now see the light.

Shooing tourists after getting his hands on a Maltese passport on the cheap.

I miss James Tyrell’s snides. The last time I saw him on Runny Nosebook we still had La Redoute’s alter ego fantasising about Batman in tights, and that idiot willywonka littering the place with his zippy pomposity (what an apt choice of handle, though – willywonka).

[Daphne – Snide is an adjective, not a noun. So that would be snide remarks, not snides.]

    • kev says:

Yes, but it’s sometimes used colloquially as a noun – at least in some parts of England. Now, whether it’s correct or not is another matter.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

No, Kevin, it’s not used as the abstract noun for ‘snide remark’, but as the noun for ‘unpleasant person’, so you’re wrong. If you don’t believe me, ask Farage.

I always thought he was a labour elve. I can’t seem to get over the fact that he might be real.

  6. saggio says:

Be it a bridge or an airport both will destroy the character of Gozo. This is madness.

I thought he was the guy who signs off Charlie Brown in numerous disparaging comments all over the newspapers. Same trend of rants.

Took him a bit late to see what Muscat and Co. really stand for – money-grabbing morons feathering their nests so when times get bad they are well ensconced in their private world.

18 hours and he still hasn’t answered … I’m getting worried … not!

  9. Albert says:

I was once a Tyrrell many years ago, but then my eyes opened and saw what PL was all about.

I’m sorry it took this guy so long to find out. It was amply clear in the past what PL is all about and they never changed.

Well, it’s never too late, so the saying goes.

  10. Joe Attard says:

I think you are all making the same mistake all over again, the one that Daphne started and you run with it. You are assuming that this Tyrrell guy is into politics in the same way that you are. You’re assuming that he’s either red or blue with no shades in-between. The way I see it he’s someone who cares about what is left of places like Gozo and has the balls to stand up and take on whoever is destroying the place he loves. Now going back a few years that person was Gonzi and the bunch of thieves he referred to as a Government. The fact that they were PN and Tyrrell attacked them did not mean he was a Labour supporter. Now the person responsible for the destruction of Gozo in his eyes is Muscat and he is attacking him. That by the same token does not make him a PN supporter. I see him as someone who doesn’t give a damn either way about Maltese politics and just cares about the country and its environment and heritage and what is best for its people, and I don’t know about you but we need more people like that in my opinion.
