I see – now we’re going to scare off the tourists

The Czech magazine The Week (Tyden) is promoting its 2nd March issue, which has a big feature about Malta and its fears of being exposed to the IS threat 350km from the island.

Aside from making us look like a bunch of neurotics – which is par for the course, because that’s exactly what we are, though at least we’re not stockpiling tinned food and lavatory paper and disposable nappies and petrol, as we did when the Gulf War broke out in 1991 – all this hysteria covered and stirred up in a magazine feature in one of our tourist markets risks damaging the efforts of our tourism promoters.

You remember how, when the revolution began in Tunisia, our Opposition leader Joseph Muscat said that if he were in government he would seize the chance to take Tunisia’s tourists?

And now what he’s doing is helping damage our tourist market instead by allowing the totally stupid perception to grow that there is some way on earth Islamic State can take over Malta.
