Prime Minister: no donations from Cafe Premier shareholders “since the general election”

The prime minister was asked whether the shareholders of Cities Entertainment Ltd had ever given money to the Labour Party or members of the government.

His response was that they are looking at it, and that no such donations have been made “since the general election”.

It’s reported in Times of Malta (see below). Shouldn’t that be the headline rather than the one they’ve given to the piece?

I don’t think it’s deliberate. I think the story they’ve got there just hasn’t clicked yet. Muscat is like that – he makes sure he’s covered when he goes on the record, so the important information is buried in the rest of the sentence.

The way he’s put it tells us that he knows for sure that the Cafe Premier shareholders haven’t given them any money since the general election – why would they, when they struck they deal with the government in the weeks that followed? – but he can’t be so categorical about what they gave or didn’t give before the election, so he staying safe.
