Bastjan dalli statement

“Bastjan Dalli” has issued a statement to the media from John Dalli’s email address. Using the standard John Dalli Doublespeak, it says that he supplied only a very small fraction of the contract that went into the construction of the state general hospital.

Well, yes, obviously – but it’s not the whole hospital we’re talking about. It’s one specific part of the hospital, and the concrete for that part was supplied in the first half of 1996.

For the first three and a half months of 1996, Bastjan Dalli was the only concrete supplier. Dalli contradicts this in his statement, but that fact emerges from an inquiry report written by former attorney-general Edgar Mizzi, who investigated the matter at the request of Prime Minister Alfred Sant.

In any case, it’s good to see that the brothers are thick as thieves once more. John Dalli would have had us believe, when he was a cabinet minister and his brother was arrested and charged on conspiracy to traffic illegal drugs, that the two had nothing to do with each other and he only found out about it when he read the newspaper.
