“The People We Are”: people who think Malta is the centre of the universe

Taghna Lkoll band-of-choice Winter Moods (50-something lead singer: Ivan Grech, brother to Josette Hamilton, married to High Commissioner Norman) has produced the ‘theme song’ for this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

It is called The People We Are and the subject is Maltese people.

Public Broadcasting Services is to produce the accompanying video, which is going to be all about – you guessed it – Maltese people.

PBS CEO Anton Attard, whose sister is married to PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami but who has decided that he is better off all round throwing in his lot with the Taghna Lkoll crowd and going with that particular flow, said in a statement: “This theme video will offer an entertaining and emotional experience in portraying Malta as a nation, bringing out the true colours of the Maltese people”.

What an unfortunate thing to say, given the context. Any video which brings out the true colours of people in this country will get the Running Commentary Award, but it’s definitely not going to be one produced by PBS led by Anton Attard and a bunch of Taghna Lkollers, laqghin and self-serving opportunists.

This is a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. In the Commonwealth, there are 53 countries in six continents, with a total population of 2.1 billion, 94% of them Asia and Africa. And yet the absurd Maltese CHOGM organisation committee, led by Queen of the Boondocks Phyllis Muscat, has decided that the theme for the video should be MALTA AND THE MALTESE.

The theme for the video should be THE COMMONWEALTH, because this is a COMMONWEALTH MEETING.

Malta-centric, Malta-obsessed nonsense: people who are this fixated with their national pride are new and emerging nations with a weak sense of identity. Watch the videos Baku produced for the Games, for instance, and you will see what I mean.

But let’s not worry too much about this. Phyllis Muscat has got the Commonwealth covered too: it’s going to be addressed THROUGH MALTA.

A statement released to the press says:

The CHOGM Malta 2015 overarching theme ‘The Commonwealth – Adding Global Valu’ is also addressed through reference to Malta’s involvement in the Mediterranean, European and Worldwide regions, as well as its history, geographical location and investment potential.
