And in the Tulip Fever of the time, people rushed to vote for this mash-up

This took place in January 2013, when Malta was in the grip of its very own Tulip Fever. Watching it now, it seems literally incredible that this mash-up was glorified and that people tumbled over each other in the rush to vote for him.

He’s clumsy, ridiculous, awkward and false. His idea of standing to attention is a weird ballet position, and just look at what he does with that wreath at the Independence monument. He dumps it flat, the stand that’s meant to keep it upright as wreaths should be is staring him right in the face and he doesn’t even work out what it’s for, still less was he briefed.

Then he hops off the step. And while walking down Valletta’s main drag, he turns to check whether the camera is following him, and looks right into the lens like a hyper-self-aware amateur actor.
