Good luck with that, Labour Party

franco debono election

Feeling neglected and in need of some attention, the prime minister’s personal consultant on law reform (his position as Law Commissioner or President of the Law Commission seems to have evaporated into thin air) has announced that he may well stand for election with the Labour Party but definitely not with the Nationalist Party.

He makes it sound as though the Nationalist Party is out there begging him to contest on its ticket. How farcical is that.

All I can say about this is: “Good luck with that, Labour Party”. As everybody knows now, Debono is not somebody anyone in his right mind would want on his team. Use him to bring down your political rivals, yes. Shut him up with a chauffeur and a salary and a bit of praise and false kudos, yes. Put him on your team, no.

Cue the neurotic hysteria, of course: Debono is going to be ringing Labour decision-makers a hundred times a day (and night) from now to D-day. He’s probably already given the Justice Minister a semi-breakdown. There’s got to be a reason why Owen Bonnici has palmed him off onto the prime minister.
