Prime Minister’s wife comes back from Dubai waving henna-tattooed hand around at press conference

The Prime Minister’s wife, Michelle Muscat, summoned the press today to defend herself and her publicity vehicle, the Bank of Valletta-bankrolled Marigold Foundation, against accusations that they have been exploiting prisoners as unpaid labour for her friend’s curtain-and-costume-making business. The friend in question, Mary Grace Pisani of Fersani Fashion, supplies Mrs Muscat with free bespoke outfits that have routinely been the talk of the town.

A tanned Mrs Muscat faced the cameras and was recorded in full by the Times of Malta, which broke the story this morning. You absolutely must watch the video here. With her left hand liberally decorated with a ‘desert princess’ henna tattoo that is clearly a souvenir of her Easter sojourn at the prohibitively expensive Hotel Atlantis the Palm in Dubai, Mrs Muscat gesticulated extravagantly throughout the press conference, making a point especially of waving her hennaed left hand about even though she is right-handed.

She also added to her husband’s government’s assaults on the free press with sarcastic remarks about “the media” and how unfair “the media” is to her.

Quite frankly, Mrs Muscat, the media is too kind. This is one of those rare occasions when I truly wish I was at a press conference. The only question I would have asked is: “Nice desert princess tattoo, Mrs Muscat. How was stay in Dubai and who paid for it?”

Their insensitivity to public opinion is, to quote the Minister for Health and Energy, “fenomenali”. With everybody speaking about their corruption and how they’re freeloading off some desert sheikh at one of Dubai’s most expensive hotels, this #corrupthamalla has the effrontery to summon journalists and hector them about how to do their job while waving her Dubai henna tattoo deliberately in their faces.

As for her scratchy voice, accent, way with words and crappy posture, quite frankly she should be behind a market stall along with Franco Debono’s ghastly mother who he proudly parades on television. The lunatics have taken over the asylum and the #corrupthamalli have taken over Malta.
