Don’t vote for any Nationalist MPs who don’t seem to be throwing their weight behind Simon Busuttil

I wrote the comment below in response to a reader who is still singing songs of praise for Mario Demarco four years down the line. Much as I like Demarco, who I have known since our schooldays, on a personal level, I am singularly unimpressed by his contribution and that of many other Opposition MPs to the good fight to turf those corrupt knaves, villains and blackguards out of the seat of power.

I am uploading it here because some other readers have said that it’s a point that’s got to be made and that it was lost on the comments board.

I’m sorry, but right now, people need to be reminded that Mario Demarco is 1. still in parliament, and 2. deputy leader of the Opposition. Because given the lack of action and his total absence from the media and the public sphere, they’ve probably forgotten. He has been as invisible as Louis Grech. Yes, he has had a very, very hard time, but then so has Beppe Fenech Adami and the latter is not invisible at all.

Mario Demarco and other Nationalist MPs seem to be going out of their way to communicate the message that it is irrelevant to them whether the Nationalist Party wins the upcoming general election or not.

A couple of them – by which I don’t mean Demarco – actually seem keen to have the Nationalist Party lose the general election so that they can be kingmakers with a new leader or be the new leader themselves. Being taken out and shot is too good for those people. They should be hanged, drawn and quartered.

We do not want another Muscat-led government and we will blame them if we get one. This is a message to all my readers: don’t vote for any Nationalist MPs who you think are deliberately failing to put their weight behind Simon Busuttil, or who seem to you to be choosing not to do their bit because it is in their personal interest for their party to lose the general election.

Their interests are not ours or the country’s. Don’t vote for them. They deserve to lose their seat in parliament. We voted for them to represent us and our views, and because we want a Nationalist government, not to give them a cushy seat in the house and a sphere of influence for private gain, and certainly not because we want to bolster their personal political ambitions at the expense of the country.

GET BEHIND BUSUTTIL, BASTARDS. GET YOUR ARSES INTO GEAR AND FIGHT BECAUSE THERE’S ONLY A YEAR LEFT AND ALL WE SEE ARE THE DRAB, SILENT FACES OF PEOPLE TRYING TO STAY OUT OF THE LINE OF GOVERNMENT FIRE. WE’RE WATCHING YOU. AND WE DON’T LIKE WHAT WE SEE. YOU’RE LETTING EVERYBODY DOWN. STUFF YOUR PERSONAL POLITICAL AMBITIIONS AND LOOK UP THE MEANING OF ESPRIT DE CORPS.

Don’t vote for the Nationalist MPs who haven’t vocally and visibly thrown their weight behind Simon Busuttil. Don’t vote for those who are determined to hole the party ship. Because they are going to inflict another Muscat-led government on us and they deserve to be kicked out of parliament for that. Vote for those who are not afraid to fight Labour.
