Graham's linked website (http://www.ip-adress.com/ipaddresstolocation/) allows you to map the location of the IP address. My own IP, for example, is located close to the university (bang in the middle of the skateboarding roundabout actually) which makes sense as the uni is my ISP. I live in Balzan, however.

According to the same website the IP address 212.56.130.26 is located somewhere in the San Gwann Industrial Estate.

<strong>[Daphne - The location pin-pointed is just a couple of blocks away from the Malta Today office. With geographical coordinates, you can pinpoint it pretty accurately. However, as several people have already pointed out, IP addresses are dynamic, so this kind of information is not reliable. It can be double-checked in other ways to give you a better indication of the likelihood or otherwise of this information being correct. In this case, for example, I happen to have the IP address for emails sent from the Malta Today offices. I looked them up, matched them to the IP address for the latest abusive comment, and the number is the same one. So what we have here is IP address X showing up for Malta Today emails being exactly the same as the IP address for an abusive comment posted on this site, and the geographical coordinates given for that IP address pointing to a location not just roughly in the area of the Malta Today offices, but just a couple of blocks away.] </strong>

@Graham C - wow that's impressive - with the lat and long you can actually pinpoint the house in Google Earth.

@ R: What you say is true, but like I said, all that matters is that the IP points to the user's PC.

Also, don't be too hard on people who are only trying to help, even if what they write doesn't really help. If Daphne didn't want comments, she would have disabled the comments function.

I agree with Tony Pace.

Actually Daphne would have been smarter to report him first, then publish his/her IP address in case someone else is receiving this kind of garbage.

I dont see why you're all wasting time with this guy. Most of your theories, such as the presumed location obtained via a simple traceroute are bullocks and in no way do they indicate the true location of the IP address, but rather the DSLAM's location.

Daphne was quite clear. He's been warned and should he be dumb enough to persist, well, I'm pretty sure the lads at the cyber crime unit would be having a word with him in a few days.

So please... just let Daphne handle it. I'm sure she could do without our advice.

<em>@ amrio:

"The IP address quoted only shows that this guy is sending mail from a PC who’s connected to the Internet via Melita as an ISP, not that he’s a Melita subscriber".
</em>
True, but he can still be traced. If the police question the person who owns the pc, he will have to tell them who was using his pc at that particular time.

<em>"The fact that he has a EuroWeb address means that at home, he has a EuroWeb internet connection". </em>

I think it has already been established that the email address is probably fake. He is not posting emails. He is posting messages to this blog, which requires an email address (even if it is fake).
