Unfortunately, the gay guy taking centre stage is one of the many stereotypes. There are many straight guys who are always trying to be the centre of attention; no one assumes it is in any way related to their (hetero)sexuality and everybody seems to accept such behaviour in a straight man as a character trait. I don't see why it has to be judged differently when a gay guy does it.

[Daphne - I agree. Look at Joseph Muscat, leader of the Pe-Elle.]

The STRAIGHT world - Does society question women who wear very sexy clothes? What about hunky muscled men who wear a skimpy vest to show off their pecs and muscled arms?

Aren't these flamboyant persons also - do we really judge them, but rather look at them and drool!

So what if a gay man wears more feminine clothes, so what if they are flamboyant. So what if I only wear clothes which are less feminine. Let's grow up and move away from all these gender-normative stereotypes; maybe one day we will be able to live freely without judgement.

[Daphne - Colette, you are definitely a lesbian if you think that straight women look at muscle-men in skimpy vests and drool. We look at them and laugh. We do NOT fancy them AT ALL. And women in very sexy clothes? It all depends on your definition of sexy. The average woman here seems to think that sexy means dressing like a tramp, and believe me, they get the same reaction as a camp gay man in a silver vest and green shorts.]

@ Drew

Most homosexuals want to draw attention to themselves. My brother-in-law was homosexual and always played centre stage. At the moment I'm busy trying to organise a heterosexual pride march in London.... hang on, politically correct police are knocking on my door.

[Daphne - I know you're addressing Drew, but I have to butt in. In my experience, it is a certain kind of heterosexual man who always wants to be the centre of attention. At any dinner party, social gathering, business meeting, conference, whatever, you will generally find a heterosexual man of 50+ boring on while everyone else has to listen. Some homosexual men like to camp it up, yes, but they tend to be the minority. And so what, anyway - it's entertaining.]

I think Maltese society is bitchy, if you'll condone the adjective, all around. If you're an achiever, male or female, you'll suffer from envy - 'ghira' - whether you're hetero, homo, or transsexual. I can't say I know of any homosexuals who suffer because of their sexuality.

Did the complaining lesbians refer to harassment from men, from women, or from both?

A Merry Christmas to you and all commentators.
