@ Mario Debono , they didn't have pvc pipes but they had those made of clay.
Kaptelli are not placed in a triangular position; they are placed horizontally, a sewer leads to a cesspit or to the sea and it should be on a gradiant (pendil). This one is level and leads to a street. My question is: "If parliament is moving to City Gate with the probability of the Yellow Garage being its parking place, why should we disagree with Renzo Piano's grand plan of a car free Valletta, and build a car park right in the middle of the city? I wouldn't be surprised that it was an escape route from the palace. Let's wait and see what the experts have to say.

@mj: I've got an even better idea - put all the infidel invaders underground where they can be forced to work (taking AN's advice) without ever having to be seen - that'll keep the population happy.

Handy passage that. Complete with kaptelli on top so that you can clean it up to clear any blockage of accumulated sh**. What passage? That looks like a drainage gandott to me. The ceiling says it all. They didn't have PVC pipes with rodding eyes in those days.

But I can understand the FAA getting all orgasmic about it. Why, these secret passages are just like the ones we used to read about in Enid Blyton! Whoever knows what might have gone on in them - maybe some damsel with hoop skirts and ants in her pants running to the palace from some connected house to comfort a grandmaster or even Romegas, that seafaring rogue himself. Or maybe they could have smuggled in some angel dust and had a party and been naughty and played doctors and patients, or strip spin the bottle, or ....who knows? Never has a common or garden drain (worth preserving, I hasten to add) been imbued with so much romanticism and mystery.

While we're at it, we can build Gotham City as well (we have a number of colourful characters who will give Batman a run for his money). In a true Ed Debono fashion, let's think outside the box - er rock - and we can also go ahead with underwater city. This is cool. I like it. It's like playing Sim City on a PC.

PLUS, there's the added benefit. With all these cities, we will have enough place to breed and outgrow the number of . . . what do they call them? Ah yes. Invaders sent by the infidel.

Gerald,

Don't you find these 'selectively' reproduced comments amusing? No one is attempting to be vindictive. Mr Spiteri commented in an amazingly funny and naive way. So, in agreeing wirh Corinne, what's got up your nose?

Gerald, the problem with the volume, low quality and nonsense of the www.timesofmalta.com comments is that they have become off-putting and tedious.

It’s always the same people who either want to express themselves even though they have nothing substantial to say because they are so bored with their lives, or a bunch of big-headed egocentrics who want to suck up to Doktor Muscat to impress him.

At the end of the day, people who can contribute and add value to the article in question do not comment at all, since they do not want to be associated with these idiots. Nobody reads these comments anymore, unless one wants to amuse himself for a couple of minutes.
