The inner eye? If you are using your ‘inner eye’ to look at the EU, no wonder that what you see is your own personal construct; quite distinct from reality.

The case against EU membership still exists, Daphne. The fact that you lack the inner eye to see it does not make it disappear. The “embarrassment” you refer to lies solely in your mind. Try to understand that there are various world views and that yours is one of the simplest forms – just like a worm in the animal kingdom.

A part of my last response to Tyrell was left out. It was something along the lines of: Why don’t you cut your blarney and go hide behind a pot of gold you spiteful little leprechaun?

When commenting on another story he had just told someone to go crawl under a stone and that was acceptable but calling him a leprechaun was too strong, apparently.

I posted a reply to James Tyrell but he’s probably got too many comments on his hands and may miss it. I’m posting it here as I know he doesn’t ever visit this site and never reads the comments here. Perhaps someone who knows him can forward the information to him? It would be terribly kind to put him out of his misery by disabusing him of his latest bugbear.

You need to fact in a time lag. That figure is calculated on the basis of a statement issued by the Labour Party. Partisan sources are not necessarily devious and unreliable, but in the face of evidence to the contrary they should be questioned. rather than taken at face value. In the meantime here’s what was said by someone who is regularly involved in applying for EU structural funds. The information appeared in a comment posted elsewhere on this site:

“The EU, especially in the structural funds programme – pays through a system of reimbursement. For the 2004-2006 programme, the projects started in January 2005, most had a 6-12 month extension with the majority of the refunds being processed in 2008 and 2009.
For the 2007-2013 – the projects, though assigned and initiated, are at the initial stages with the first letter of offers being signed during the last quarter of 2008. It is envisaged that around 50% of the 300M Euro already assigned shall be utlisied during 2009, with reimbusements happening in 2010.
