In reply to <a href="https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2009/05/more-holiday-snaps-from-modica/#comment-26640">Chris II</a>.

Ma' tantx huma "upmarket" ... Hilarious! Look at the "bed and breakfast" place Anglu Farrugia's daughter said they "normally" stayed in (presumably before buying a toqba-mhux-fil-gzejjer-Maltin):

http://www.pozzocassero.it/camere%20ok.htm

http://www.pozzocassero.it/

"The rooms are tidy and comfortable and one need ask for nothing else" - Or, as Mrs Bucket might have said, there's room for ... an elephant!

(The link was provided by the daughter herself, in the link provided by Chris II above ... http://www.frigintini.it/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=79 )

The best bit of Ms Farrugia's "essay", however, must be this:

"There are all the facilities one would expect to find. The beach is equipped with toilets and also showers, including a tap in the street where one can finally rinse one’s feet before putting on the sandals. In we still linger way behind in these things."

She certainly didn't know what it was like to live in Sliema in the early 1980s, when we didn't even have water in our taps at home, let alone on the beach.

This is proving to be very entertaining.

"What impressed me in Marina di Ragusa is the amount of make-shift tens which were erected where street hawkers displayed all their wares and where we bought quite a few things with very cheap prices, including, fancy hair clips, wind chimes which now I sport in my room, hand-held fans and costume jewellery etc."

[<strong>Daphne - "On the same October 2005 holiday my parents Carmen and Angelo decided that they wanted to spend a day in Catania . On the way there we came across the Auchan hypermarket, so instead of spending the day in Catania we spent the day at the Auchan, which we truly enjoyed anyhow. It did not take us long to arrive from Ragusa to Auchan even though at the time we did not yet own a GPS. ………….Now we have learnt to go around by ourselves and we managed to find a hypermarket just off Ragusa called Centro Commerciale Ibleo." Ahahahahaha - stop!
@Amanda Mallia
I happen to employ a Filipina nanny - I guess I am an up-and-coming-wannabe :)

To set the record straight, Filipina nannies have work permits, pay NI and taxes, and receive proper salaries. You seem to assume that Filipinas are idiots - they are not. I would not trust my kids with one if they were.

Every time they leave the country (to go home on vacation for example - fully paid by the employer, by the way), we have to get a sticker for their passport. The immigration police check that their NI and taxes are fully paid up before issuing such passes - so frankly I have no idea what you are talking about.

I am sure that some people try to abuse the system, however the great majority of wannabes play by the rules.
