Ha better the 70s !! I was sweet sixteen. Used to meet my friends at the Fortizza or Golden Seven, organise hikes and discos, wearing platforms and hot pants and dancing jive or listening to Deep Crimson and Pink Floyd. Oh where have those days gone?

I think you are both right. There is a saying in Maltese, “Min jaghmel qoffa jaghmel qartalla”.

About platform shoes: the guys who liked them most were the short ones. When one of my cousins who is six foot four was with his friends near a Cafe’ in Valletta once and someone remarked to him that his bell bottoms were hiding some three-inch platform shoes, he immediately raised his leg to show his flat shoes while a short waiter with some pastizzi and beer on a tray passed right behind him. No need to tell you that Martin it-Twila had to pay for the contents of that tray.
