Just one slight disagreement though: I find all public shows to be too much. One does not need to make a spectacle to pay homage to one’s god. Same argument holds for the Catholic Church, with all its pageantry. When one converses with one’s god, it should be in private, unless of course the object of the exercise is to impress others with our piousness.

Islam is particularly mind-numbing, with its insistence on absolute obedience and conning things by rote. I stand to be corrected, since I haven’t done any comparative theology courses but I’m also under the impression that Islam is pretty hard on ‘unbelievers’ – something which is used by terrorists to justify their horrendous acts. It’s a sad fact that most modern terrorists are Moslems who believe that they’re doing God a service by killing, maiming and terrorizing ‘His enemies’.

So I, for one do not like this ‘in your face’ demonstration of religion. A religion which I associate with 9/11, the Taliban and the abuse and belittlement (give me a better word) of women. A dour religion based on dislike, revenge and retribution.

That is not to say I am against the freedom to practice one’s religion in public. I just don’t like it. I don’t think it will do any good.
