Whose side are you on, Mary?

Unless you look at it from two different points of view:

1. my vote might act as a wake up call for the government to get its act together faster;

2. my vote might (I’ll venture a “will” here, considering the current PL leadership’s self satisfied nature/reaction to this victory) lead the PL leadership into thinking that they’re REALLY building a progressive coalition, which includes people like me, who according to their flawed thinking will vote for them in 2013.

I agree that I am fully responsible for the consequences of my vote and these two scenarios are in no way an attempt at justifying it; they merely present an alternative to your theory of undermining. My only justification for my vote is LG’s track record as an MEP.

Anglu Farrugia et al’s hold on the party will remain exactly the same notwithstanding the result of this election…the culture of resignations is not exactly a pillar of PL (you may read Maltese) politics. I voted for Louis Grech…that vote also went to PL of course, but please take off your blinkers and acknowledge that my vote to a very capable MEP does not place the rest of his party in government.

I can try to understand (although I did not go through your personal experiences) the feeling of dread when you see AF et al…but voting for Louis on the basis of his track record as MEP is not the same as voting for PL in 2008/13….I hope we can agree on that.

But I trust you also see that your act in voting Labour in this election helped undermine the government and thus increases the chances of Labour being elected in 2013. Adults are responsible for the full consequences of their actions and should not seek to justify them or use ameliorating excuses. Louis Grech may be as capable as they come, but as long as he stands on the Labour ticket I will never vote for him. The consequences of voting Labour, in this election, are the undermining of the government. And if you can’t see that, you know precious little about politics.]
