Not in the axe-grinding but on the receiving end….

How were you involved in the axe-grinding mission?

The truth is that when the Foundation for Tomorrow’s schools was created it brought about a paradigm shift in the way schools were built and refurbished. The new structure was more like a private entity than a government department and the pace at which the Foundation needed to and wanted to work was too fast for the civil service.

Today schools are built in a matter of 2-3 years and one is completed every year apart from the many schools that are refurbished annually. The quality of the schools is top notch, as should be. Before the foundation, the division used to take years to construct a school.

With hindsight nobody in the right frame of mind would dispute the excellent work that the foundation for tomorrow’s schools is doing but back then the Malta Today and the Labour Party wanted to kill it, probably for partisan reasons. The magistrate’s report did not find any corruption as alleged and that is because there was none to find.

Thank God, the FTS is still going strong and is giving the education sector excellent schools, on time and on budget.
