They’re long gone, and good riddance. It’s all very well to lodge your tongue firmly in your cheek, but Maltese politics is chauvinistic enough as it is. And I say that as a full-blooded male.

Dear Angel, I do not pretend to be in a better position than Daphne to answer you, but like you I am a Maltese citizen and I have an opinion, which is: of course there is nothing wrong in being friends, whether on Facebook or anywhere, across party affiliations.

I am a Nationalist supporter and was even highly active in the party, doing my bit for a number of years. I not only had and have numerous friends from the Labour Party, but even tried to help whenever and wherever it was necessary.

This is not what Daphne is highlighting. Whenever you vote in an election, you give your vote to whom you think serves best the interests you deem important, and whom you see credible enough to pursue those interests.

But, if you see a pretender is so close to the opposing party, to the extent that he even sleeps with somebody intimately involved with the opposition, now that is something totally different.

Daphne has not just exposed Musumeci’s friendship with Roderick Galdes. She has exposed a series of friendships with the opposition and its media, not only on Facebook, but socially in real life. What are the implications of these friendships? We can only speculate at this point in time, But you should ask yourself why there were so many Labour Party agents at the counting hall when Musumeci contested John Dalli’s seat. What was their interest in having him elected?
