Daphne, you say “it wasn’t because Labour had won yet another election”.

Well, Labour won only two consecutive elections in your lifetime, so “yet another” sounds a bit exaggerated.

And I would dare say that if after a Labour victory they limit themselves to celebrating on trucks past the Preluna, drinking, swearing, showing off their family jewels and spitting, that would be very decent celebration by Labour standards.

To my knowledge , police are being stationed at the Regional Road crossing into St Julian’s on Monday evenings, not allowing the “Marmalja tax-Xalati” to parade through St Julian’s and Tower Road.

In reply to Anna. I remember those carcades as well. When I was a kid, they used to pass through the main streets of Mellieha at 8 - 9 am on their way to Armier. and at 6 pm on their way back.

I saw that carcade along the Coast Road. What impressed me most was the dangererous manner in which a truck and a jeep were loaded with people standing up, half drunk, swaying and singing.

Just one sudden braking and they would have all come flying off the vehicles.

Another car had a thick ‘garland’ stuck on the windscreen and I can’t for the life of me imagine how the driver could have a clear view of the road.

Not one policeman in sight when I’m sure they know that this farce takes place along the coast road every Monday evening.

[Daphne – Do they still drive along Tower Road past the Preluna? Or have they been put off by the traffic jams over the years? On Monday evenings in summer we used to watch the lorries laden with creatures from another planetary culture as they rolled past drinking and swearing and pulling out their family jewels and spitting. At least we knew it wasn’t because Labour had won yet another election because there were no Patrick Holland posters.]
