This is exactly why the situation was so tragic.

We had millions in coffers.

We also had :

No water. No telephones. Intermittent electricity supply. No jobs. No doctors in our hospitals. No computers. No real tertiary education. No toothpaste. No tea. No rice. No chocolate. No nothing.

Mintoff ran the country like he ran his household.

He would give his poor wife fifty cents once a week to go to the Paola market to buy fresh fish. He had millions stacked away.

National economies are not run with money in coffers but with vision, confidence in your fellow countrymen and the creation of work opportunities and wealth.

Money in coffers is economic taboo.

Albert, the funny thing is that with the ‘400 millions’ that Mintoff had in his kaxxa, we were deprived of all the basic needs. While with the present national debts we have a comfortable life. If you have any doubts just refer to our statistics.

Did anyone watch Bondi Plus yesterday? Did you listen to Charles Mangion who, God forbid, could be our future money man? He could not answer Lou’s question re the Eur 444 million deficit if Labour introduced its wish list.

This figure does not include the living wage. I am scared. Big time.
