H.P. B… I think you mean Verdala Palace Hotel not the President’s summer residence. I know that Gaddafi had a special suite reserved only for him at the Jerma. I think Jerma was meant to be Libyan Intelligence headquarters disguised as a hotel.

I meant “Verdala Palace too”. Until a few years ago you could visit, with special permission and lots of embarrassed looks, the cypher room used by the Libyans during the 1986 bombing. Hopefully someone’ll have called bulky refuse by now. I’ve been told by a reliable barrani source that Gaddafi himself took refuge in Malta soon after the bombing raids because he feared an invasion, staying at Verdala. I wouldn’t rule it out.
