And what reason might that be, if not “God disapproves”? What difference would gay marriage make to “straights”?

We’re always being told there are non-religious reasons for opposing gay marriage. We’re never given any of the reasons.

Out of curiosity, is the swearing on the cross obligatory for everyone, regardless of belief? I’m asking, as when I got married I declared at the registry I’m not a believer and was excused from swearing and kissing – yuck!) the cross, while my wife wasn’t. The court is different?

[Daphne – No, it’s not. Alfred Sant spoke under oath in court that morning, but I don’t remember what he did. There is an alternative.]

Two of the Labour Party’s most recent leaders, Dom Mintoff and Alfred Sant, are atheists, so what’s Toni Abela going on about.

And I’d be willing to stake a bet that Joseph Muscat doesn’t believe in God either, but he’s not going to say so. Not because he’s scared of losing votes – though a bit of that too – but because he can’t be arsed.

A self-centred extreme pragmatist of that order is not going to bother with Might, Maybe and the hereafter.

Is Toni Abela upset at Lou for candidly admitting to having lost the faith?

Or is he upset that maybe Lou chose to swear upon that which may, to him, still carry meaning?

The problem with the crucifix is that even a born atheist can understand what it means. Let alone those who’ve been through some very serious thinking.

One of the things these idiots love doing is meddling with personal experience, refusing paradox. Everything has to fit their comfort zone.
