As it happens, freedom of expression (which should never mean “freedom from criticism”) applies to elected officials as well; the only difference is that they are held to a higher scrutiny for such expression, or at least they should be.

Never get into a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel. But then again, in the age of the internet, everyone can be a publisher.

And this is the problem in Malta: we are so small that the number of adequate people for important positions are quite limited, and it’s rather embarrassing especially when you live abroad.

The chairman of the Malta Council of Science and Technology should definitely not be acting like a teenager on his Facebook wall.

He should use this wall to educate others on what he is doing professionally, use Twitter to upload educative Tweets, and act professionally.

And this does not only apply to JPO – it applies to most of the MPs out there.
