This is the same question that many people ask themselves, Daphne. Shall I vote for someone who ‘serves’ me or someone who is really good at their job? That is why I said that there is a problem with democracy as we know it.

I don’t believe a word this man says. When I heard him bluffing about this particular experience that a lady in Paola called him while he was passing by so he could could catch a mouse for her, I thought he was making it up for laughs and admiration.

So a man whose wife doesn’t look after their children rang Silvio, did he? Why would he do that?

His ‘profession’ is a health assistant and he gets elected because he delivers pills to old people. Mind you he is an affable fellow but what does he know of the running of a country?

At the same time I ask myself who would I vote for if I had a choice between these two: (1) a politician who calls me, sends me cards and helps me when I have some difficulty with government bureacracy but he has the IQ of a Bonobo or (2) A technocrat who is an expert in his field with a proven track record of achievements in his field but he is a little detached and aloof.

[Daphne – The answer to that is obvious, unless you have the IQ and educational level of an old woman to whome Silvio Parnis delivers pills.]
