Instead of insisting that the PIIGS take the measures necessary to re-balance their budgets and restore confidence in their economy, he suggests the typical socialist solution, that the nordic countries should ruin their budgets to subsidise the excesses of the PIIGS. In reply to DV. I wasn't referring to you, Daphne but to the Nationalist party and its newspaper. A blog is different, one can post any time of the day and night and reactions are instantaneous. On the other hand changing your front page at the eleventh hour has a different ring to it I think... [Daphne - Er, how shall I put this kindly? Changing your front page at the 11th hour when need dictates it is what newspapers DO. Sometimes, they even have to print at somebody else's press at 7am when their own press has been burned down by a mob. Now that's really desperate.]

If I were in the higher echelons of the Nationalist party I would avoid attacking Edward Scicluna now. Let a few days pass first. If you come out immediately like they did in the Mument this morning with the abortion story one looks desperate (and somewhat pathetic also).

[Daphne – No, actually one looks on the ball (nothing to do with Franco’s linfa). Nobody bothered with him before because he wasn’t a contender. Now that he is a contender, one bothers. Why delay your reaction? My reaction is immediate, now, for instance. And that’s the whole point of a blog. ‘What do you think about Edward Scicluna’s bid to become finance minister at 67, Daphne?’ ‘Oh, I’ll tell you in a few months’ time, so that DV doesn’t think I look desperate and somewhat pathetic also.’]

In reply to BC. There is one word which describes Professor Scicluna sufficiently, based on how he comes across. He is a pessimist. He is not someone who has any enthusiasm or confidence in the country. Which means that his budgets will make no social justice and he will be stingy. He will implement the MEAN part of Joseph's lean and mean government.
