But who would want to call his offspring Liban? As far as I know it is the French equivalent of Lebanon. The only name that is similar to it is the Biblican Laban, who , I believe, was the name of the father-in-law of Jacob.

I was going to point out that it was an aunt who felt insulted by the criticism levelled at unfortunate names, but then I remembered that ‘neputi’ can be a grandchild as well as a nephew.

Was it always like this though? I always thought that grandchildren were ‘it-tfal tat-tfal’ with specific names, such as it-tifel tat-tifla or it-tifel tat-tifel. Ghandi hafna neputijiet imma m’ghandix tfal tat-tfal ghalissa.
