The winning team gets 300 euros to be divided between them all – so basically 50 Euros divided by around at least 5 persons (more likely 10) and thus from 10 to 5 Euros each and the honour of keeping the Marlene Cup for 1 year.

In my opinion, the issue of students finding their lectures (and anything related to academic education) boring is not attributable only to short attention span.

Nowadays you get scores of teenagers going into University just for the sake of it – it is the thing to do (biex tasal) and you get paid for it. This does not mean that they are in any way academically inclined, curious about knowledge or have the required aptitude to put in the expected effort. Often, they lack the necessary skills, such as abstract thinking.

Then they end up in lecture rooms bored to hell and expect that their lecturer does some magic trick to tickle their interest. Rather than adapting themselves to the situation and learn new skills, they expect, in true Mintoffian style, that their education is tailor-made to their wishes and level of ability because it’s not fier.

Not everyone is cut for an academic education, be it by nature or as a result of one’s background. I for one, if I’d go back, I would choose a less academic path. But I have always paid attention to lessons, even boring ones, and was generally curious about knowledge, something which many students lack.
