In reply to Richard Borg. Richard Borg, the problem was further exacerbated by the fact that, at the time of the Mistra scandal, Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando was the Nationalist spokesman for the environment, (or something to that effect), and that Mistra was, well, Mistra.

The irony of it all is that this deal went up in smoke thanks to the Labour Party.

MEPA had already issued (wrongly) an outline development permit and, although the full permit was refused, it could eventually have gone through with some major modifications.

Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando should take a long hard look at those around him because whoever gave that contract to Alfred Sant, effectively sank the whole project.

In reply to Richard Borg. The worse scandal in my humble opinion is that this came from an MP who was proclaimed GREEN POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR and who , if rumour is correct, was hoping to be made minister for the environment once elected in 2008.

There is nothing wrong with having such an income.

However, it’s hypocritical when one portrays himself as an environmentalist.

One cannot advocate the preservation and conservation of natural environment and at the same time apply for a discotheque on a green area.

This was the crux of the whole Mistra saga.

Of course there is nothing wrong earning almost 2 million euro in fifteen years without even drilling one tooth.

It is that first he denied having signed ANY contract. Then he said that the tenant signed the contract. He lied to the Nationalist Party and to his party leader. He orchestrated the MTV scene with Sant who mysteriously obtained the original contract.

Put it all together and then determine whether JPO is the ‘victim’ in this scenario.

No wonder he became so bitter.

Losing 2 million paid over 15 years would have put him on Easy Street from year one and by now he would have received about 521,000 euro without lifting a finger.

People like JPO and his friends are the ones who give politics a bad name.
