Dear Sigarri,

I wouldn't rush into judging anybody by his/her "bad Maltese spelling".

How would you judge Dante or Shakespeare?

I can assure you that Daphne, unlike myself, does not only have a perfect command of English but even of Maltese.

By the way, nice to have you back - actually I thought you would be occupied in preparing for, what you call festa.

The abysmal level of Maltese spelling showcased by this comment is unfortunately pretty much the standard fare evident all over Maltese comments boards and social networks.

I understand that some people are just to lazy or too ignorant to write correctly in their native language.

What I don't understand is why the errors they make are pretty much always the same. Using "q" instead of "gh" and vice versa, using a double consonant instead of a single one and vice versa, using "c" at the end of a word rather than "tx" and several other common errors.

It's like they all were taught Maltese by the same inept teacher. I wonder if there is some standard method of teaching Maltese in government schools that is resulting in this mess.
