Oh, yes. I think it does matter to Franco.

Much as he would like to fire his single shot and bring down the government, he is also very much aware that, when this is done, he will immediately wipe himself off the stage and into oblivion – and that is something that he cannot bear.

And, to complicate things further, as Franco himself informed us, Austin Gatt has a pretty wife, while Franco has to make do with his assortment of birds and cockerels.

Perhaps someone might consider installing a horizontal stay-arm to the palace flagpole and thereby possibly bringing matters to a head without any damage to the well-being of the nation.

You are not correct.

The 5 years start counting from the opening of parliament.

Il-hdax il-legilatura opened officially the 10th May 2008, so the 5 years end on 10th may 2013. so 10th may 2013 is the latest day that parliament can be dissolved. After that elections can be held after a maximum of 3 months hence 10th august 2013 is the latest date that elections can be held.
