Well on TVM2 Joe Grima was asked if a foreign country could get control of Malta by this deal, as you said, and he admitted the possiblity, he said it’s normal – what’s best for the country.

It need not be a veto. Could this be related to supporting the application by a country to join the EU?

If my memory serves me right, a certain MP with the name of JPO once said that he would support Israel in a bid to join the EU.
