Exactly. This election is Labour’s Berlin, 1945. Something changed in the body politic in the years following 2008. Do you remember that election? By today’s standards, it was extremely restrained, theatrical almost. This one’s hand-to-hand bloody savagery.

Sant survived defeat after defeat because the hyping up was kept in check, and he was emotionally detached. With Joseph Muscat, it’s different. Winning is his very raison d’être. He is The Saviour. If he loses, he loses every shred of credibility.
