It is evidently clear that Joseph’s life was a bed of roses – fast cars, expensive clothes, a house with a pool, a family business and above all an MEP’s pension.

Gonzi built his own house out of his own pocket, and before 1987 Minister Lorry Sant saw to it that the street in Marsaskala where he lives, and the others leading to it, were not surfaced with tarmac.

Compare this to when Joseph wanted to build a swimming pool in the house his parents gave him in Burmarrad. He got the MEPA permits through the fast track before the 1998 election, while others who applied before him were kept waiting.
