Joseph’s plan was to visit the Vatican before the MEP elections for a photo-shoot with the Pope and to make a statement about marriage, divorce, annulment declarations, civil unions and adoptions by gay couples, that way he would have had a head start in the electoral race.

The Maltese Curia, not wanting to get involved in all this, anticipated his plan and alerted the Vatican authorities, we’ve been there, done it with Mintoff in the 1981 elections.

So they called the shots and ‘invited’ our scheming Joey for a premature unplanned half-hour visit to tell him to do whatever he planned but make it quick.

What will the big issue be for the next EP elections? Surely not marriage, divorce and adoption issues.
