The Romans used to say:- “Timeo danaos, et dona ferentes” meaning:- I am wary of the Greeks, even when they come carrying gifts”. Whether, to-day, we could adopt this maxim in respect of CCCC is everyone’s guess.

China had not been ‘discovered’ at the time – I think India was the furthest east that the Romans knew about then. They brought captures animals from India – at a vast cost – for their ‘circuses’ and their ‘games’.

Incidentally, no Roman legions were in the habit of ‘running like fun’ after grabbing the stash. And lots of grabbing they surely did.

Knowing Malta, a press conference to counter Muscat’s would be another disaster. Simon Busuttil sitting between the po-faced deputies, plus the totally unnecessary chairman, who opens proceedings.

Press conferences of this sort should be a one-man act – just the party leader.

Now this is interesting, Bondi has Joseph Muscat as sole guest on Bondi+ tonight. JM naturally evasive. Highlight word of the show – ‘underestimating’.

This government’s logic defies all expectations. This evening in parliament Joseph Muscat told us that:

“Due diligence was made when somebody needed to be paid for a service, but in this case, the government would not be charged.”(The Times)

So we have to accept whatever the Chinese are ready to dish out for free, although the ‘free’ thing is only on paper.

“Dr Muscat denied violation of EU rules. He said an eventual fixed link may not necessarily depend on EU funding and a toll system could possibly be introduced.”(The Times)

I may be wrong but I think that EU rules must be followed irrespective of funding.

Hope Simon is able to digest all this plethora of (un)expected behaviour from his opponents. A proper press conference to counterbalance this charade would simply kill it and show once again what real statesmanship is all about – mhux pozi u makeup imma sustanza.
