Daphne, I am happy in Malta and its true that the situation in most of Malta is not all that bad, yet. But I am sure that everyone, even the NGO’s must agree that we cannot go on like this, accepting every boatload of illegal immigrants that comes here and in such huge numbers.

I am lucky enough not to to live in an area like Marsa, Birzebuggia, St Pauls Bay, Msida or even Balzan close to the church. Parts of these areas have turned into little Africa’s.

[Daphne – You don’t get out much, do you? St Paul’s Bay immigrants are practically all from the former eastern bloc. The African immigrants who live in Balzan are at the Good Shepherd home, which also houses a shelter set up years ago as a refuge for women and children escaping the frightening violence of Maltese men, which is why the door is lined in steel and fronted by a steel gate. Msida – you must mean near the bus-stop. Oh, my, very frightening. Black people, tsk tsk tsk, can’t have that. Marsa – that’s where they live. Birzebbugia – ditto. I don’t know about you, but I find them far more appealing and certainly safer than the Maltese in Mosta who shoot at each other or kill their wives, and those are just the ones in my neighbourhood that I’m talking about. And I haven’t even begun on the retired white-slavers, drug-dealers, attempted murderers and actual murderers in the close vicinity of where I live – all Maltese.]

If the European Union refuse to lift a finger to help us other than take a handful of immigrants over five years and offer us money (as though Malta is for rent) what are we supposed to do?

A line has to be drawn before the situation gets out of hand.

I want to make it clear that I am not racist and have absolutely no problem with anyone who comes to Malta legally, be they black, asian, middle eastern or whatever.

I believe this story has three main points to it:

A diversionary action for the Dalli affair (it is an added bonus, it was not thought out! You guys think that the PM is really bright.)

An electoral promise to do something about immigration.

An extremely good ‘exit stage left’ for point two with the electorate, someone to blame and the possibility of accessing other funding, albeit a dubious funding with lots of explaining to do.

On the contrary, his advisors should tell him that this is the time to bring John Dalli forward. This is the time for Joseph Muscat and John Dalli to appear in pictures all over the media, shaking hands and smiling.

This is the time for Joseph Muscat to re-gain his popularity – which according to MaltaToday’s surveys has nose-dived – by calling on John Dalli and jointly promising help to alleviate the problems of Africa through the investment of those billions of dollars which are planned to be channelled through the Bahamas specifically for philantropic initiatives in Africa.

This strategy should held Joseph Muscat kill two birds with one stone: rehabilitate John Dalli, whilst solving the immigration problem at the point of origin.
