Daphne, I see that your posts must be very effective.

As from early afternoon many posts from “fascists” were circulating on Facebook, saying that the prime minister does not want this demonstration and therefore, if people want to show their solidarity with him they should not attend.

Perhaps this demonstration should not be stopped, in order to see how many people are going to adhere to his wishes.

Please allow me to amplify on this by quoting some lines by Michael Douglas in the film “The American President”.

They may sound naive and maybe a tad unreal, but you cannot deny the basic ideology.

They go like this :

“America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the “land of the free”.

Hard as it may be, we cannot defend democracy by going against its principals.

The only reason that people are against irregular immigrants coming from Africa is that these are ‘black’. No one protests against the thousands of other immigrants who come from Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Syria and so many other countries.

I see that Malta Taghna “changed his profile picture” on Facebook 17 hours ago.
