I share Mr Zammit Tabona’s amazement at his utility bills.

How does a household of two persons rack up utility bills of Eur1,000? Ours is also a household of two, where we don’t skimp on heating in winter, we use a washing machine as often as necessary, and our bills are perfectly reasonable.

As with all astronomical bills there is probably some mistake. It is usually the home owner’s assumption that their consumption is reasonable when it is anything but.

In the video “it gets better” produced by the US embassy, he spent 22 – 30 seconds speaking about his role/status/position in Maltese society, before he went on to speak about the subject of the video (i.e. coming out).

Also, his bills were always over EUR 1,000 or so he claims. He also claims to live in a ‘modest apartment’ so he could not understand why his bills were so high.
