Catholicsm (or Christianity in general) is more than that. Forgiveness does not come easy, if one does not forgive the others himself…

and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;

It is also about (and not being) name-callers, proud, self-praising, etc. etc. Does morality outside religion teaches these too? For if it does, someone must not have been a good student.

Of course, it is difficult for all us, cause forces of nature lead us elsewhere. Yet you can denigrate the PL as much as you like, but you cannot denigrate the absolute Good and the Truth.

I believe that its one’s upbringing that sets your behaviour -morally or otherwise. No amount of going to doctrine classes or exclusive schools will really change you much.

So by your logic, to have a good chance (opposite of ‘generally’) of not being a crook, racist, amoral, etc you have to be anything but Catholic.

Speaking of biased deduction, taking any remote opportunity to attack the Catholic Church. Rather pitiful.

[Daphne – Actually I agree with Sully. Catholic doctrine does breed bigger crooks and moral/amoral pragmatists, because it is all about sin and redemption. You sin, and you get forgiven, your sins absolved, so you might as well sin. Then there’s all that ‘the devil tempted me’ rubbish, and stuff like you shouldn’t lie because you put another thorn into Jesus’s crown. What happens is that people grow up linking wrong and right to religion – they dump the religion and they dump all sense of differentiation between right and wrong. When morality is taught OUTSIDE the remit of religion, it becomes an intrinsic part of that person’s make-up – and when morality is taught outside religion, there is no concept of absolution, or ‘sin’. You don’t do it because it’s wrong, end of.]

It is daft and a public demonstration of the illiteracy that prevails in officialdom in Malta.

Anyone with a minimal sense of pride in the ministry or department concerned should remove that sign at once, and send the sign maker back to primary school.
