It is in the public interest that a journalist asks Dr. Mizzi about the fact that his wife will be living in Shanghai as a result of the post she has been offered by the government of Malta, and how he plans to keep his married life while he continues to live in Malta.

This is not a personal private issue. This is a logical fair question that we are entitled to ask to a person who is serving in public life. Why should the Minister and the Ambassador give up their marital life to serve the country?

I am not aware of any other case or situation or of any other country where something like this is allowed to happen. Family life is a fundamental human right.

When governments and private companies offer posts abroad for the long term, they also offer the relocation of the immediate family. This goes without saying.

As an Ambassador to be based in Shanghai, Mrs. Mizzi Liang is entitled to have her immediate family relocated to Shanghai.

Dr. CONrad Mizzi has already been assigned a gargantuan task by Joseph MOUscat to deliver Labour’s key electoral promise of “inrahhsu il-kontijiet b’25% fi zmien sena mill-elezzjoni.” It is not fair to now deprive him of his family life, which is one of his fundamental rights, in order to complete that task.

Shame on you Konrad, I’m labour as much as you are, so far Muscat didn’t give a job to my wife worth €2000 a week. Four years have passed listening to super one about the €500 raise to MP. Muscat said that Mrs Mizzi salary is justified because he is so sure that she will bring investment to Malta. Don’t you think that it was more justified for Gonzi to give that raise? The Mp worked so hard to keep Malta always ahead of other countries and you brag about how good Malta is in the USA
just a week ago. I’m sure it’s not through your merits. You fooled lots of people but it want happen again.

I quote from the above “It has been clearly reported, quoting both Malta Enterprise and the government, that Mrs Mizzi is a government envoy, not a Malta Enterprise representative, and that is why she has the same terms and conditions as an ambassador.”

To confirm this, Konrad Mizzi, when pressed by a journalist for his wife’s (or ex) remuneration, replied that he can only say that she will be receiving a Scale 3 salary. He suggested that, as for her benefits, the journalist should contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
