As soon as I turned 50 I started wear shirts with classic patterns only. I like the British traditional style of shirts, they look very presentable. I only wear t-shirt on rare occasions, such as going to the beach.

When a crestfallen Governor sadly informed De Gray that he would have to go on the insistence of Mintoff and on the advice of the Office of the Attorney General a cool unperturbed De Gray simply begged to differ and advised the Governor to consult his superiors at the Colonial Office.

As a result when soon after Mintoff insisted “Either De Gray goes or I go” a relieved Governor just pointed his finger at Mintoff and told him “YOU GO!”

You could spot him from miles away in his smart appearance. His decorum would spell discipline. Most of all his knowledge of the law and case law was impeccable. All his instructions to the force was legally sound as were his decisions in matters of certain importance.

In his inimitable way and with that heavily anglicised accent he would have said ‘ dan really kumissarju?’.

Appointed by Mintoff, De Gray was unswerving in his allegiance and devotion to the Police Corps.

When sly Dom Mintoff attempted to manipulate him, his reply was momentous:

“I serve the Crown”.

He stood his ground in the knowledge that the unmitigated wrath of the monster that was Mintoff would descend upon him.

It did, and Vivien was proud of it till the end.
