No. He has not been confirmed High Commissioner.

If he had been confirmed, then The Times report (which is probably based on some DOI press release which I will not bother to look up) would have said that the Prime Minister was accompanied by the High Commissioner to the UK, and would probably take the opportunity to reproduce his CV, including his adventures in Soho as Clive Waters, his hosting of “Antenna,” “Sibtijiet Flimkien” and “Il-Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija” on Dardir Malta, and his role at Super One, that epitome of honest and unbiased broadcasting.

Instead, The Times has published three short sentences focusing on the PM’s meeting with Archbishop Joseph Spiteri.

Oh, and the picture would not have been edited (probably by the DOI) so that Clive Waters has been practically eliminated from view.

A friend of mine related how some months back, during some event on a Saturday morning when an Australian dignitary was visiting, our PM turned up at the event, unexpectedly, wearing a pair of jeans.

And The Prime Minister is not even wearing a suit jacket. He’s dragging Malta’s name right down to the drain even with his attire. And is that sleek mane of golden hair, on the Prime Minister’s right, Norman Hamilton’s? And if it is, has he been confirmed High Commissioner to be there?

The Commonwealth Summit is being boycotted by the leaders of Canada, India and Mauritius in protest at Sri Lanka’s human rights record.

The Australian and New Zealand PMs may also back out, while David Cameron is making a point by visiting the Tamil north.

In the meantime, the PM of Malta is taking advantage of the presence of a motley crew of African despots to hawk a passport or two.
