Indeed. No law yet and hence no criminal offence. The fact that these lawyers are promoting the scheme does not mean they are Henley agents. Most probably it means they do not give two hoots.

Shame on him. By becoming an agent for Henley and this even before it has become law, he has done a disservice to his colleagues and to himself.

He is no different to those National Bank shareholders who made a deal with Mintoff when he threatened to take the bank (which he then took), thus making their fellow shareholders’ positions weaker. Shame on him.

He should rather be lobbying with Dr Muscat to enlighten him to the error of his ways both on the parameters of the programme and the appointment of a sole concessionaire.

He boasts to be an adviser to Dr Muscat, so he is in a good position to do so. That is unless he knows that it is all pointless and that Joseph Muscat intends to play bully and push this through regardless of all the good counsel he is getting to the contrary. In which case he has buckled in.

So Dr Chetcuti go ahead and continue in all your travels, networking for the benefit of Henley & Partners who have just turned you into a cheap commission agent.

Iranians. Of course.

With no diplomatic relations with the US, it is rather tricky for an Iranian to travel there. It is all but impossible if they are government officials, clerics, or rich businessmen in league with the government.

More crucially, vitally, due-diligently importantly, is the plethors of sanctions, international and national imposed on Iranian nationals (not just Iranian-registered companies). With a Maltese passport, an Iranian arms dealer could do business worldwide. Bingo.

Yesterday evening, I sent an email to EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding’s office to see what the EU’s stand on the matter is, asking questions about this sale of passports business and whether the EU can do anything about it.

Quite rightly, they can’t do anything until the law is enacted and the passports are being sold.
